For the sixth year, Portland State is ranked No. 1 in the Pacific Northwest for Social Mobility by U.S. News & World Report and No. 42 nationally. At Portland State, graduate students train to guide people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision toward independence. This summer’s intensive “cane class” had students navigating blindfolded at Fort Vancouver, gaining skills to meet the national shortage of Orientation and Mobility specialists.
